Saturday 9th January 2016 saw the first ever UKDBA recognised youth dodgeball tournament take place in Northern Ireland. 7 teams pitted their dodgeballing wits against each other in a bid to win the coveted trophy.
The standard of play, across the 3 hours of intense competition, was to be admired. Each game was extremely close and no one team was dominating. The tournament took the format of a round robin, with each time competing against each other and the team to collect the most points, by a fine margin, was Crossfire Juniors. Led by their coach Gary O’Rourke they played some exceptional dodgeball and fully deserved their victory.
Special mentions must also go to the Cregagh Canons and Goliaths “B” team who, despite being slightly younger, showed no fear, and provided stiff competition to Crossfire and the other teams present. I would like to thank all the teams for coming out and playing.
The atmosphere on the day was fantastic, with great support from parents and coaches. The most pleasing aspects of the day being the standard of play, the sportsmanship and the enjoyment had by all the participants. This may have been the first tournament of its kind, but it will certainly not be the last. A date is currently being drawn up for our next tournament, which we hope will attract at least 10 teams, as we continue to grow the sport of Dodgeball across Belfast and Northern Ireland.
